Satin Bowerbird

Bowerbirds wander through our valley during late winter and spring, before the weather gets too dry and warm. They are quite shy.  This year a family of four bowerbirds have stayed through the summer, visiting frequently. 

There's another explosion -  this time at the big Lilypot!

The male Satin bowerbird has a lovely blue-black sheen hence the name.  The birds love the colour blue and the male bird builds a bower and decorates it with blue objects to woo the female.  We first saw these beautiful birds in the Bunya Mountains.
